Mandala Art as Spiritual Practice
Here then is another rule about the soul: It is affected by symbol, ritual and image.
None of this has to be understood or registered intellectually; it is enough to experience the transition.

Mandala means “sacred circle” or “container of essence” in Sanskrit. The circle is a symbol of wholeness that has been used in ancient traditional healing in cultures worldwide. The Mandala process I practice and teach is greatly inspired by the mandala process developed by my teacher Dr. Judith Cornell. As a modern expression of ancient sacred healing art, Cornell's simple coloring technique with white and colored pencils on squares of black paper to create luminous circular symbols. Representing light emerging from darkness, the colored circles within a black square symbolize the soul within the body - spirituality in physicality - energy within matter. While using Cornell's techniques, I include the conscious experience of wholeness in the process of mandala making. Before creating each mandala we consciously re-connect with wholeness, visualize ourselves as a mandala and create mandalas from the heart / soul. The CHI logo is a Wholeness Mandala that symbolizes the essence of my work. Like most forms of energy medicine, this process of mandala making can be understood best through experience rather than words.

Vibrational Medicine or Energy Medicine includes a variety of holistic treatments in which energy vibrations within the individual and in the greater universal and earth environment is the medicine. The interactions between the consciousness and energy vibrations have been proven to bring about physical, emotional, mental and spiritual healing and transformation. Read more.....
The Use of Symbols & Imagery in Healing
We humans express ourselves symbolically. It is what distinguishes us from other animals. Our languages, music, mathematics, visual and performing arts are symbolic ways in which the collective and individual human spirit expresses experiences of its journey on Earth. From traffic signs to logos and computer icons, symbols are all around, and are part of everyday life. They evoke feelings and inner meanings, and are often used to express a concept which can be better expressed through an image than through words. Words are restrictive in that they have meaning and relevance only to a particular culture. Symbols and images, on the other hand, are more expansive, and can carry meaning across cultures that may not be adequately expressed in words. Read more.....

Mandala has a long history as a sacred art form and is recognized for its deep spiritual meaning and representation of wholeness. It's been used across several faith traditions and is often reflected in the entrance to sacred spiritual places and in spiritual imagery (above the entrance to churches, within the dome of the church, Celtic crosses and other symbols). The circle with a central pattern is the basic structure of creation and can be represented in a mandala. The idea is that we're made up of tiny cells which form our body, which exist within the world and also within the larger universe. Read more......
